Date: 28th December 2008
Venue: Sanctuary Care Centre
Event: "Dear God" project and Christmas celebration
I know it was last year's stuff but I'm kind of delayed in posting it and it's worth sharing.
It was a nice sunday morning and my club is having a fun Christmas celebration with the children from Sanctuary Care Centre. So far only myself, Sharon and 2 of her guests were there. So, we talked to the caretakers and the children while waiting for Calvin and Jacqueline together with our lunch. A brief info about the home, it's a home that takes care of children aged between 4 to 16 year old who has a single parent, orphaned or abandoned. They survive on personal charity donations, recycling used items and sell used clothes to pay for the bills.
It didn't took long for our lunch to arrive and all the kids took their place at the tables while KFCs are being served (drool...^^). Everyone had a hearty lunch and settled down for the next activity...game time (Yay...!!).
The first game we played was called Hot Potato. It's a simple game where a person is given an item that was meant to be passed around while the music is being played. The one who holds the item when the music is stopped loses and has to be punished. In this case, they were required to dance. Some of the children were too shy to dance and some took a friend to dance along. They were having so much fun. Of course they can't go empty handed so a sweet was given to them.
We played a few rounds before moving on to the next game...Charades. The topic chosen was sports. Charades is something like Win, Lose or Draw but the person have to act instead of drawing. The catch...? Whichever kid that guessed correctly can ask the Rotaractors and guests to do whatever they want. In our case, we had to dance ^^". There was baseball, american football, volleyball etc. It was so much fun. Too bad for those who didn't make it because they missed seeing me and calvin dancing to hip-hop...LOL
The last game we played was Dancing Robot Game. The children will start dancing when the music is played and freeze in whatever position they're currently in when the music stops. They can't move until the music is resumed or else they're disqualified. Basically everyone was excited while playing the games. After that, it's present giving time (another Yay...!!).
Since the original Santa Clause was not around, we found a replacement which is yours truly. I can't deny it because I do have a bit of the body shape (I've got to lose weight already *sob sob*). Once all the children got their presents, it's time to open them. It was heart warming to see the innocent smiles and laughter of the children when they see their presents. After a whole day of fun and laughter, we bid farewell and had a brief lunch ourselves before going back. Although it was a tiring day, I really had fun and enjoyed it.
